Final outcome for unicorn lamp

Here come the final outcome for the lamp design. It is really interesting and catch quite a lot people attention and we saved money because we dont have to buy light bulb at all.

The exhibition corridor where we hanged our lamp, simple yet nice.

this picture look like the unicorn is the angel from the heaven,but it actually look more like pegasus since it has wings but it has horn as well.

progress

submission day was coming shortly and we were in rush to finish everything. different from eunice and lynn who did pillows and lantern, i was in charge of printing all the design onto our materials. here, things were a bit harsh especially when i printed on fabric for pillow as we did not have appropriate stuff to enhance the quality of the prints. therefore, sadly some of our designs, especially the diamonds part turned out quite smudged and cacat. however, luckily our most important thing which is the wall paper, we can say, was quite successful in terms of quality of the prints and its neatness.

unfortunately, all 3 of us were dirty on our hands because of those fabric paints as we had to go wash the silk screen everytime we printed once, therefore we did not even bother to take pics. and ofcourse, we were totally stressed, freaked out and nervous too.

after we printed few designs. some things went wrong, so we had to cut off. but because we had to cut off, i have came up with new ideas, which is the border of our wallpaper.

after diamonds, we also added so called 'bling blings' too. and it is as below.

Lamp & measurement progress

We bought 6 purple sugar paper for our wallpaper and combined it with tape.

We need to measure so that all our unicorns and diamond can fit in 2X1 Meter papers. We spent one day just for measuring, but the outcome was great=), everything fit in the paper nicely

I cut the diamond shape out but didnt take picture..too busy cutting..so we came out with this extra elements idea is adding more things that related to wallpaper, paper lamp is one of them we can thought of.

After cutting out the diamond shape and stick it like a cone then we decided to put satay stick on top to maintain the shape.

Cutting double sided tape for bling bling to put on the lamp to make it more retro.

wait till more updates and the final outcome of our project.

Progress

After brain-storm, sketching, shopping, discussing, finally we gonna to start our printing and sewing.. Lol.. To increase the value for our wallpaper, we decide to sew a table cloth, pillow case and decoration lamp. So that when our consumers buy our wallpaper, they can also get the same series of these stuff for their home decoration. Cool? Haha..
Ok, here is some photos when we were measuring for the wallpaper and sewing. For others part of progress, Lynn and Sean will post it. Here we go.....

But I did not sew "bling bling" stuff on the table cloth because people usually will place things on it. If there also "bling bling" stuff on it, this will bring trouble to people. So, I did not sew for it.

our final design

the time has passed and after all the designs we have done, we finally ended up with our final design. Apperently, to create 2 different coloured designs, we divided the designs into 2 meaning we are doing 2 silk screens.

To talk about the design itself, to enhance the retro mood, we have used diamond shapes as our background below the unicorn.

And our unicorn here, based on our sentence 'unicorn with an afro, with big wings and bling blings around' turned out to be like this.


And this would be our final outcome which the purple/pink as our base (paper), diamonds of silver, and yellow for unicorn. These colours were chosen after our research, which we would say, the 'retro colours'.

The Afro unicorn

Do you people remember the unicorn I posted last week? Same as Eunice, even though I do not really have to post up these sketches since we had the final design for our silk screen but I still think it is necessary to show the progress of our works. Therefore, here are the sketches.

The first unicorn full body i drew, added some black part to show the muscle and shadow.

The final design, which you can see from the post below.

Today, we did silk screen and it was quite fun even though this is not the first time doing it. It was quite successful because I was worried about the unicorn wings, but it turns out perfectly fine accept the diamond shape for background as we did not dry our silk screen longer. Overall, it was fine and only our group managed to success and move to our next step. Therefore, we are going to get 1 meter x 2 meter papers and colours for our design. Might snap some pictures while we are shopping.=P

The Last Sketch

Haha..The last sketch that i will post for it. I had bring the design and asked Liwen, he wanna me take off some circle and the text so that it will not looks so complicated. Today is our day for silk screen. Finally, Liwen had choose Sean's design. Although the design had decided, but I think I should edit the design and make it better (at least I done something for myself^^ )..
Ok. Finally everything is done..See you guys for the next assignment.

sketches

Well we have to start our silk screen tomorrow which is the only available day to get our work done, therefore all 3 of us had to come up with at least 1 final design so that we can proceed tomorrow.


Basically, i have used lynn's unicorn design as my design had some problems, so what i did was to add patterns. I have designed 2 and i kinda went through lots of thinking in the mean while, which is that to think about a wall paper, printing with a3 sized silk screens, complicated patterns will rather disturb if to think that the wall paper is actually used in my bed room. If the designs are too complicated, it will create more of a negative visual effects than a positive one, especially when they were in colours, which is one of the most important fact of 'retro'.


And the 2 designs are as follows.

The final design will be chosen soon.

Edited Sketch

This is my edited sketch. But I not sure that I did it correctly or not. Hopefully it is correct. This time I added some retro pattern beside the unicorn. For me, I think not only the pattern can make it retro, but also the color. So, color is quite important also.
Ok, let us see my new design.

Still sketchesssssss

After what I saw the comment from Liwen on Eunice post, so I decided to try using some retro pattern that I searched on unicorn. Here come more pictures of it and the pencil sketch I will post up next week.

The first sketch using Illustrator, decided to draw front view because when i searched for Unicorn pictures, i realised most of the pictures are side view.

After i showed Sean, he said i should add something on the body because it looks too empty for silk screen. Then, i did two more sketches and showed Sean again.HAhaha, second ones look like cow, agree with sean =P. But, most of the retro poster that i searched have circles, then i thought of polka dots. Besides that, polka dots are one of the retro style too right? =)

So then, from the first ones. I did another four sketches with retro pattern on it.

Guess what, these four patterns remind me of James Bond style. I like all of them, but i knew second ones is impossible to do on silk screen because the lines are too thin..not easy to do on silk screen.

So that all for today, still trying another style besides surrounding the unicorn.
